Oasis das Estrelas
The Serra da Estrela (literally: Star Mountains) is the largest mountain range, also a natural park, on the mainland of Portugal. It is the westernmost part of the Castilian Separation Mountains.
The highest peak, Mount Torre, measures 1993 m, making it the highest mountain on the Portuguese mainland. A masonry column of seven meters high raises the highest point at 2000 m. The rivers Alva, Zêzere and Mondego have their source in the Serra da Estrela. The largest town in the chain is Covilhã.
The mountainous region is not only known for its natural beauty, but also for its sheep cheese and the dog breed Cão da Serra da Estrela.
